Keeping your writing fresh and interesting

Once you enter the business writing space, it can be difficult at times to keep your content fresh and interesting. Even if you have a subject that’s constantly evolving, it’s possible to run into writer’s block and struggle to find the right words.

The last thing you want is to get stuck in a rut, so here are some ways to make sure you don’t get burnt out and keep your writing engaging for your audience.

Have an opinion

There’s nothing wrong with exploring different perspectives and points of view on a subject in business – but it’s equally important to have an opinion on it. Establishing yourself as a knowledgeable writer and developing a meaningful opinion can help you connect with like-minded people. If someone is taking time to read what you’ve written, they’re looking for something solid, and it’s best you give them that to keep them coming back in the future.

Be Disruptive

It’s not always the best course of action to follow the norm. While the “proper” way or the preferred way to analyze trends might be the safe route to follow, if you look at it from a completely new angle, you might just strike genius. Disruption is a good method of keeping things creative, especially if you’re looking to appeal to advertisers.

Look for inspiration

Naturally, there is a difference between being inspired by something and outright plagiarism, so it’s important to understand the difference. There are a lot of great resources you can go to in order to find inspiration, whether it’s a book or a similar writer who produces content that can steer you in the right direction. Thanks to the internet, accessibility to inspiration is easy nowadays. You can use this to your advantage to build your favorites and find inspiration. It’s especially helpful on those dull, dragging days when you feel like you have nothing to give.

Take Risks

When it comes down to writing original content, you can’t play it safe. Original content pushes boundaries and looks at the same subjects from a different perspective. Try to remember the books and articles that inspired you in your life that didn’t resemble anything else you read before. Look for ways to challenge the subjects you write about. Bring that element into your writing and be open to taking risks in your writing. Having that unexpected element in your writing, although you need to make sure to do so in an acceptable way. Trust me, your audience will appreciate it.

Manage writer’s block accordingly

You can’t deny that writer’s block happens. During your time as a writer, even during the week, you’re going to hit that wall. The way out is not to stick to it and just deliver an average article hoping that it will go unnoticed. Rather, it’s better to recognize it and do something different to get out of that tough spot. If that means you need to step away, take a walk, or do something that gives you the energy to pump you up and get you back to writing.
